Liga MB Round 11: Brujos lose to San Salvador in the game between Top 4 teams

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between Top Four teams took place in San Salvador. First ranked host San Salvador (8-1) defeated 4th placed Brujos (6-3) 98-92. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Brujos. San Salvador made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Salvador made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for Panamanian Alejandro Scantelbury (199-1993) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Dominican forward Cristian Joan Duran (201-1996, college: Tenn Tech) helped adding 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Dominican forward Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. San Salvador have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-1 record. Brujos at the other side keep the fourth position with three games lost. San Salvador are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Cojute (#11) in Cojutepeque in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brujos will have a break next round.
The game in Nejapa was also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Fantasmas (4-4) played at the court of 8th ranked Nejapa (2-5). Fantasmas defeated Nejapa 105-90. It was an exceptional evening for Cuban point guard Osmel Oliva (180-1987) who led the winners and scored 38 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists. JaCarre Crockett accounted for 30 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) came up with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for Nejapa in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory Fantasmas went down to sixth position due to points difference. Nejapa at the other side keeps the eighth place with five games lost. Fantasmas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nejapa will play against Santiagueno (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Santa Ana was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Aguila (5-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Santa Ana (3-6). Aguila did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 99-82 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Jose Araujo who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Aguila's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Jonathan King produced 28 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the hosts. The victory was the third consecutive win for Aguila. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Santa Ana keeps the seventh position with six games lost. Aguila will meet at home higher ranked Santa Tecla (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santa Ana will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 11: Santiagueno was destroyed by Brujos on the opponent's court 100-71. Aguila outscored Chalchuapa in a home game 131-89. Metapan managed to beat Fantasmas on the road 67-55. Santa Tecla crushed Cojute on its own court 98-77.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 28 points and 12 rebounds by Jose Liriano of Santa Tecla.



Brujos - Santiagueno 100-71

Very expected game in Izalco where 9th ranked Santiagueno (2-6) was crushed by fourth ranked Brujos (6-3) 100-71 on Saturday. Brujos dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Santiagueno's 40. Brujos forced 24 Santiagueno turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brujos made 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was Dominican forward Xavier de la Rosa (196-1991) who scored 36 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Maxwel Mendoza chipped in 22 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds and Kymanie Robinson added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Brujos. They maintain fourth place with 6-3 record. Santiagueno lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with six games lost. Brujos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santiagueno will play against Nejapa (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Guard Bryan Garcia (168-1997) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Aguila's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Five Aguila and four Santa Ana players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Aguila. They moved-up to fifth place. Rather predictable result in San Miguel where sixth ranked Aguila (5-4) smashed 10th ranked Chalchuapa (2-7) 131-89 on Sunday. Aguila dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 52. Aguila forced 22 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 46-30 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. The best player for the winners was Luis Portal (188-1986) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (on 15-of-19 shooting from the field). Cuban Lisvan Valdez (196-1988) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Aguila players scored in double figures.
